BERITA MICCI Celebrating 103 Years In Perak

However, he added that looking on the bright side, there were more flights to Ipoh and tourism was thriving.

MICCI Perak celebrated its 103rd Anniversary Annual Luncheon in October 2015 at the Crystal Ballroom, Impiana Hotel. More than 200 members and guests were greeted by MICCI President, Datuk Wira Jalilah Baba and MICCI Perak Chairman, Datuk Lim Si Boon before the afternoon was officiated by the Perak Menteri Besar, Dato' Seri DiRaja Dr Zambry B. Hj. Abd Kadir.

In his message, Dr Zambry acknowledged that the business environment in the recent months had been rather challenging and with the rising cost of doing business, the State was willing to receive suggestions from the business community on ways to mitigate the current state of hardship. He also went on to highlight Perak's overall performance, which he termed as satisfactory.

Additionally, he stated there were opportunities for the State to support businesses, for example, by reducing assessment rates, reducing development costs as well as improving infrastructure and security.

The afternoon concluded with Datuk Christopher Tan Chee Keong, Director for BFR, PEMANDU addressing members and guests on the Government Transformation Programme (GTP) encompassing the 7 National Key Result Areas (NKRAs) and the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) that includes the 12 National Key Economic Areas (NKEAs) and the 51 Strategic Reform Initiatives (SRIs). Against this GTP & ETP background, Datuk Christopher explained how Perak would be able to benefit in its quest to be economically on par with the other States.

Foreign investments stood at RM2.57bil and domestic investments at RM423.54mil with the main sectors for foreign investment being fabricated metal and wood products. As far as the State's GDP growth over the past few years was concerned, it had been steadily expanding between 5.3% and 7.1% annually since 2010. Dato' Seri DiRaja Dr Zambry B. Hj. Abd Kadir

Dato’ Lim Si Boon further expressed that the GST and the increase in development charges at the State level had negatively impacted business sentiments.

BERITA MICCI Containing Unwarranted Profiteering Whilst businesses are grappling the impact of GST across their sales and operations, the government has also introduced the Anti-Profiteering and Price Control Act 2011 to contain unreasonable profiteering by businesses.

Regulations 2014, where there will be no increase in NPM from 2 January 2015 until 30 June 2016 (18 months).

MDTCC also recommended that businesses review and adjust their operations on a regular basis while ensuring that their processes and procedures are in compliance with GST regulations.

To this end, MICCI organised a half-day seminar on AntiProfiteering: Implementation and Compliance Post GST that was moderated by Raja Kumaran, Executive Director of PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Taxation Services Sdn Bhd and featured three key speakers, Guna Seelan AS Marian and Low Swee Hon of the Enforcement Division of the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism (MDTCC) and Nicolaos Giannopoulos, Executive Director of PwC Australia.

The key areas that the seminar dwelled into included the Australian Tax experience in GST, MDTCC Report Card on pre and post GST activities, compliance inspection and penalties imposed if one fails to comply with this act, and the mechanism of determining unreasonable high profits relating to the Net Profit Margin (NPM)

The seminar featured Jais bin Abu Hasan, HRDF Senior Manager, HRDF Training Grant Division who provided an overview of 1MalaysiaGRIP specifically on how the distribution of 30% levy is used only for 1MalaysiaGRIP training courses and in the event the funds are insufficient, the Government will provide an incentive, which will be used to cover the course fees.
